Kirsten started her coverage of the online education space with her personal, self-titled blog KirstenWinkler.com in January 2009. Soon it attracted a dedicated readership from startup founders, online educators or “edupreneurs” and investors interested in the space.
In the same year, Kirsten won the popular Edublog Awards in the category “Best New Blog”.
EDUKWEST – on the search for better education
EDUKWEST was founded in 2009 by Kirsten Winkler to share the talks she had with startup founders and thought leaders in education with a larger audience instead of keeping them for herself.
Over the years Kirsten recorded more than 200 interviews and talks with innovators and successful entrepreneurs in the education space covering life long learning, K-12 and higher education.
In 2012 EDUKWEST became official partner for educational project of the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.
Fair Languages – Celebrating Multilingualism
Fair Languages is an education technology-focused online publication founded in 2012 by Kirsten Winkler and Kay Alexander.
Fair Languages is a source for trends, tips, resources and information for language learners and teachers & tutors. The mission is to offer guidance and product reviews for self-learners and professionals who want to offer new ways of learning to their students.
Deutsch Happen – Learn German online for free
From 2008 onwards Kirsten has maintained a project called “Deutsch Happen” with the aim to help people with an interest to learn German through free yet valuable video lessons via YouTube. Kirsten’s video lessons surpassed 1 million combined views in 2012.
In 2011, 2012 and 2013 the Deutsch Happen Facebook Fan Page was awarded the title as one of the “Top 25 Language Fan Pages” by Lexiophiles.
This Week in Startups Paris Meetup
In 2010 Kirsten started with the organization of the This Week in Startups Paris Meetup. Based on the popular webcast by serial entrepreneur and angel investor Jason Calacanis, Kirsten searches for promising startups in the Parisian ecosystem which have then the chance to pitch Jason Calacanis live on the This Week in Startups webcast.
Winners of the event are invited to attend the LAUNCH Conference in San Francisco to present their companies to an international audience of tech press and investors. Until today participants and winners of the TWiST Paris event raised several million Euros in angel and venture capital investment.
The event has also been supported by Microsoft France and the LeCamping Incubator.
